Nine-and-a-half-month developments

Elise’s new developments:

She has learned cause and effect in play time. She now knows to push buttons on her toys to hear sounds, stack objects, place her toys inside containers, pour them out and then place them back again.

The game of “I drop the toy and you pick it up for me (over and over again)”. We knew it was bound to happen and sure enough she just started the game last week with daddy.

Opening and closing doors, drawers and cabinets in the house (yep, it’s child lock time).

Has learned that pointing is meant to direct her towards something. I can now point and ask Elise to bring me a book or toy and, most of the time, she will retrieve it! She also points out objects on her own and gives short descriptions in her own little babble language.

She’s become adept at grabbing the tiniest objects on the ground with her thumb and forefinger. She’s now taken that skill and started pinching mom and dad. She finds it amusing each time we say “ouch”.

Stands and cruises the house extremely well now. She barely has to hold on for balance anymore, we feel like she is sooo close to taking her first step.

She loves dancing to her favorite theme song from “Little Einstein”. When the show starts and the music comes on, her eyes light up and she flashes a huge ear-to-ear smile.

She eats a wide range of solid foods now and drinks from her sippy cup. She’s also learned to play with her food and has been testing our limits by spitting out and/or dropping the foods she doesn’t care for.

She is GO, GO, GO all the time! She doesn't want to be held as much because it interferes with her exploration and discovery of every possible object around her. It makes us appreciate the time when she was little and would fall asleep in our arms. Now, we are lucky to even get her to sit still.

Now goes to the grandparent’s house twice a week. She sees nana Wednesdays and grandma, grandpa and Aunt Darcy on Fridays. She enjoys her time with them and best of all she sleeps great for mom and dad the next day!

Elise's nine-month-old photo shoot

Here are a few of our favorites shots from Elise's Easter photo shoot. Background/photo quality aside, Elise looks pretty darn cute!! Our last family photo shoot was when she was four-months-old. It's unbelievable how much she has grown since then. We plan to do another photo shoot when she turns a year old.

Happy Easter 2010!

Basket full of piggies

Little Elise had a fun-filled Easter weekend. She got to "hunt" for Easter eggs filled with cheerios, play with her aunt's real live Easter bunny and guinea pigs, explore all her new Easter basket toys from her grandparents, and hang out with her cousin. She enjoyed all the play time and was happy and vocal for most of the day. One of the funnier moments came when daddy was playing with her cousin Tyler and not paying enough attention to her. She actually got a bit envious and vocalized her frustration through a shrill yell directed right at daddy. The look on her face screamed, "pay attention to ME, and ME only!". It was the funniest sight, and as soon as she was back in daddy's arms all was right with the world again. :)

Sunday morning at the park

Last Sunday, we took Elise on a stroll through the park, which is only about a five minute walk from our house. She loves being outdoors in the sunshine. With summer on the way, we certainly plan to make plenty more outings so little Elise can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. She had a great time on the playground, swings and slides, however, she is still not quite sold on the idea of playing in the grass. She doesn't know what to think about the prickly texture and does her best to avoid touching it. It was pretty amusing watching her try and scoot her way over to us without putting her hands down in the grass. It is little things like these that make parenting such an adventure :)
