Las Vegas Trip 2013: Further Down The Vegas Strip - The Cosmopolitan, Bellagio and Venetian...Kid Free!

Still day two here in Vegas, and after a long afternoon of swimming, daddy was nice enough to bring the kids back to the hotel for a nap, so momma and nana could meander further down the Vegas strip and explore some of the newer hotels and casinos. We got to explore inside The Cosmopolitan, Bellagio and Venetian. These are all beautiful hotels, of which we shall stay in one day, mark my words. The Cosmopolitan was perhaps the biggest surprise, because I had no idea it even existed prior to exploring. It is quite lovely inside and has numerous spots for photo opportunities with its elegant chandeliers. Nana and I spent lots of time here admiring the beauty of all the sparkling glass alit with the loveliest lilac and pink hues.

After the Cosmopolitan, we headed down to The Bellagio and took some photos outside by the water, then it was off to The Venetian. At this point it got to be quite a long walk, but it was worth the trip to quickly visit the Venetian. The last time I was in Vegas, the Venetian was brand new and still under construction, so it was nice to see what it looked like in completion. It is a beautiful hotel and, having been to Venice myself, I can say that the outside features and building replicas are a very nice tribute and do bring some Italian charm amidst an otherwise dry and arid desert.

On our second day in Vegas (with kids), we did some sightseeing along the strip. The kids immediately gravitated toward M&M's World, so off we went. On our walk over we met SpongeBob, and this was definitely a highlight of the day for the girls. Elise was very excited and Alina was well, let's just say, "cautiously eager". There were plenty of other popular cartoon characters hanging out along the strip and the girls enjoyed pointing them all out.  M&M's World was a fun place for the kids to explore, and the girls enjoyed filling up their bags with plenty of multicolored sweets.

After the short walk along the strip, we headed back to our hotel as we had planned to take all the kids for an afternoon of swimming at the pool. The pool at our hotel, the New York, New York, was so-so at best, and fortunately we were given free entry passes to use the Monte Carlo pool, which has a standard pool, lazy river run, and a wave pool. The Monte Carlo pools were incredibly crowded, but given that it was a Saturday afternoon in August we weren't at all surprised. There were few kids at the pools, it was far more of an adult party (I mean this is Vegas after all), but the kids didn't seem to mind as they spent most their time wading in the wave pool. When the waves started they scurried to the shallow end for rescue, until they finally got used to them and then started to enjoy the experience. It was fun watching the little cousins swim and play.

Las Vegas Trip 2013: Excalibur and Family Time

The Excalibur in Las Vegas

Last weekend, we took our first out-of-state road trip with both the girls, the destination: Las Vegas, Nevada! We went to visit family and the girls got to meet some of their little cousins for the very first time. The trip was lots of fun, and the little cousins had the best time playing together. We managed to get all seventeen of us together for a group family photo, with all the kids looking at the camera, which really is a feat in and of itself. After spending time with family the first day, in the evening we made a trip over to the Excalibur Hotel as the kids were enamored by the prospect of visiting a castle. We stayed at the New York, New York Hotel, so the Excalibur was conveniently located right next door. We took the kids to the Excalibur Arcade and despite being tired from a long fun day (and restless road trip), they dashed around and had a great time playing all the arcade games. When the night finally came to a close they both crashed out the second we put them in bed...this NEVER happens in real life, only on our vacation alternate reality, HAH. Suffice it to say, we also crashed out the second our heads hit the pillow. Ahh, vacation bliss!

Happy 2nd Birthday Sweet Little Alina!

Happy 2nd Birthday Sweet Alina!

Happy 2nd Birthday to our littlest sweetheart, Alina! While it's hard believe you are a big two-year-old now, you will always be our tiny baby doll at heart. It feels like it was just yesterday, but since the moment you were born, you have brought immeasurable joy to our lives. You are the sweetest little girl, and never fail to put a smile on the faces of those around you. Your kind spirit and demeanor have been such a welcome addition to our family, and we have relished in these first two years spent with you. Daddy and I feel so fortunate to be your parents, and to get the opportunity to care for you and shower you with our love and affection.

At two-years-old, you are becoming a very grown up and independent little girl. You are talking quite a bit now. You love to sing your ABCs and deliver cute one-liners that keep mom and dad laughing. You also love to do things yourself, and are very vocal in expressing this desire. "I do it myself", along with, "I don't like that", are some of your more common declarations of independence. Those two phrases aside, you really are the most gentle soul who loves giving hugs and kisses, and comforting those that are down with your sweet pat on the shoulder and kiss on the cheek. You are such a little sweetheart. You are extremely generous and enjoy showering others with your affection. You love to play mini-mom and your baby dolls can attest to that. You take the best care of them and enjoy getting to feed, dress, and comfort them. You put all your babies to bed every night and pat them on the back until they fall asleep. It is the sweetest thing to watch.

While you are super sweet, easy-going, and rarely fuss about a thing, you do have one obsession and don't allow anyone to come between it; Mickey Mouse. Nobody is allowed to interrupt you when Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is on because that's serious business!  In fact, you now sit with your two Mickey stuffed animals side-by-side while watching the show. None of us dare move your Mickeys or turn off your show until it is completely finished. This is about the only thing that upsets you. We've all learned not to try and compete with Mickey; he always wins.

Another huge part of your personality is your courage and fearlessness. You are a little thrillseeker; so brave and tough that it often has mom and dad in disbelief. When you fall you get right back up and barely miss a beat. You are always wanting to try new things and refuse to accept being "too little" as an answer. You have already learned to swim, ride your tricycle, ride big sister's two wheel scooter, do somersaults, and climb, climb, climb! You have been a climber since you could walk, and it never ceases to amaze the things you can scale. It actually makes mom and dad nervous, but this is all part of your incredible determination and drive. You want to keep up with big sister 100%, and we'd have to say that you are doing extremely well at it.

You make us so proud with your energetic and fun-loving little spirit. You love to sing, dance and get lost in fits of laughter. You have an amazing little singing voice, and some great dance moves! Your laugh lights up an entire room, it is so infectious and your genuine happiness radiates to those around you. You are almost always smiling, and you keep us smiling right beside you. We love your positive energy; you will always be our eternal optimistic. Everything about you is joyous and kind. Sweet Alina, we look forward to watching you grow, and seeing more of your adorable personality emerge. We love you so much precious birthday girl!

Celebrating Elise's fourth and Alina's second birthday

Happy 4th Birthday Elise!

Happy 2nd Birthday Alina!

With Elise's fourth birthday in June and Alina turning two in August, we decided to throw the both of them a very special double birthday party last weekend. On the ticket this year was a summer rainbow birthday party! Miss Elise chose the rainbow theme this year, so as usual mommy and grandma planned the brightest and most fun party possible for our two sweet birthday girls. With over four years experience, we're quickly becoming pros at this whole party planning gig. Our banner making is getting faster, our decorations easier, but more importantly the fun and kids multiply with each passing year. There were plenty of new little faces this year, and it was a joy to watch all the kids play together. The bounce house water slide was a hit yet again, and while Elise and Alina were hesitant to go down the slide at first, they gained some courage by the end of the party and really enjoyed it.

I always have to give a shout out to Cake and Candy Specialities, of Citrus Heights, for the amazing birthday cakes. I've been going there for a few years now and they never disappoint. They made two amazing and delicious rainbow birthday cakes that everyone enjoyed. The girls were jumping up and down with joy when they first saw the cakes, so mission accomplished! They both had ear-to-ear grins when everyone sang them "Happy Birthday", and amazingly they also sat through opening ALL their gifts. They were entertained the entire time, and they are two very lucky girls because they got completely spoiled by all our wonderful family and friends. Thanks again to everyone who shared in their special day with us. Our girls feel so loved and fortunate to have all of you in their lives. It was a wonderful day, and momma is now looking forward to relaxing again until next summer when the party planning kicks into high gear. To be honest, I am thinking double parties may be the way to go, they both had the best time. Happy birthday to our two beautiful girls!
